Graphical abstract. Credit: ACS Nano (2025). DOI: 10.1021/acsnano.4c10476 A research team has advanced cathode materials, a key component of electric vehicle batteries. Their findings could usher in a new chapter in the development of high-capacity high-safety lithium-ion battery materials. Their paper is published in the journal ACS Nano. Cathode materials are a key component of lithium-ion batteries and are thus important determinants of major battery performance metrics, including capacity, lifetime, power output characteristics, and stability, as well as the storage of lithium ions and the delivery of electrical energy. Nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) cathode materials with higher nickel content are…

Ray Gifford is the managing partner and Matt Larson is a partner at the Denver office of Wilkinson Barker Knauer. 2025 begins with two disproportionately sizeable achievements. Nvidia has quietly retired 32-bit PhysX support on RTX 50 series GPUs — a game-specific graphics technology that was advertised heavily during the 2000s and early 2010s. Nvidia confirmed the technology’s end-of-life status (at least the 32-bit version) on the Nvidia forums as a result of 32-bit CUDA applications support deprecation starting with the RTX 50 series. As far as we know, there are no 64-bit games with integrated PhysX technology, thus terminating the tech entirely on RTX 50 series GPUs and newer. RTX 40 series and older will still be able to run 32-bit CUDA applications and thus PhysX, but…

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) feels like a bedrock of American innovation — and for good reason. NIH funding and leadership have catalyzed medical breakthroughs that have saved countless lives. There are other ways to raise funds for research and innovation: I’ve raised hundreds of millions of dollars in my career. As economic and political winds shift, even long-established and lauded agencies can find themselves in peril. From personal experience, I’ve learned that no source of funding is guaranteed. I’ve worn many hats — a professor at MIT, a founder of multiple startups, an executive at top tech companies,…
